Ride To Eco-Wheels Show

The weather was not too promising on the ride down to the bike shop, overcast and low hanging fog. But as we were getting ready to leave at Noon, the sun came out and it warmed up a bit. The ride to the Eco-Wheels Show at the distillery, was uneventfull, and the sun was peaking in and out all afternoon. I was not impressed with the amount of vendors at the show with the theme being predominently electric e-bikes and cars. Urbane had a booth there and the solar powered car travelling across the country was on display as well. We left the show at about 2pm. Only 2 riders went out for this ride.

Ride Of Silence 2011

The weather for this memorial ride was perfect. No rain, a bit windy on the way home, and mild enough for no jackets. The ride started at 7:10pm from Spadina & Bloor and rode east along Bloor very slowly, (just fast enough to keep upright), moving silently along taking only one lane and keeping in a mass. Thirty cyclists took the ride as we turned down Yonge street obeying all traffic laws. Then west on Queen Street to the Trinity Church Square behind the Eaton Centre for the memorial; (normally the ride finishes up at the Peace Garden at Nathan Phillips, but it is being renovated this year).

That's me in the pics in the bright blue jacket on my yellow beachcruiser, incidentally, the only beachcruiser on the ride.

Ride Of Silence Wed. May 18 Toronto

I ask all to come out to the corner of Bloor and Spadina at 7pm - 8pm on Wednesday May 18th to honour the fallen cyclist, to raise awareness that cyclist are traffic and everyone needs to share the road.

WHY DOES THIS ORGANIZATION EXIST?

* To HONOuR those who have been injured or killed
* To RAISE AWARENESS that we are here
* To ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD

THE RIDE OF SILENCE WILL BE QUIET

On Wednesday May 18 at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will begin in North
America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in
a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured
while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right
to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't
aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists
themselves.

In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride Of Silence in Dallas
after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a
passing bus and was killed.

The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during Bike Safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured by motor vehicles.

Mother's Day Ride

Mother's Day saw us riding to the Value Village at Lansdowne & Bloor Street west, then a pit stop at Lansdowne & College for coffee and then zig-zagging down to Queens Quay and some photos at Sugar Beach. Afterwards we headed over to Sherbourne and home. 10km.
BTW, that's my customized SUN Super Cruzer I'm riding!
